उमंग उत्साह चाहे हो जितना दिखाया;
विक्रमी संवत बढ़ चढ़ के मनाएं,
चैत्र के नवरात्रे जब जब आयें;
घर घर सजाएँ उमंग के दीपक जलाएं,
खुशियों से ब्रहमांड तक को महकाएं.
यह केवल एक कैलेंडर नहीं प्रकृति से सम्बन्ध है,
इसी दिन हुआ सृष्टि का आरंभ है.

HAPPY UGADI TO YOU ALL
Ugadi marks the beginning of a new Hindu lunar calendar. Celebrated mostly in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, it is a day when mantras are chanted and predictions are made for the new year. The most important part is Panchanga Shravanam - hearing of the Panchanga. The Panchanga Shravanam is usually done at the temples by priests. Before reading out the annual forecasts as predicted in the Panchanga, the officiating priest reminds the participants of the creator, Brahma, and the span of creation of the universe. Kavi Sammelanam (poetry recitation) is a typical Ugadi feature. A literary feast for poets and public alike, many new poems written on subjects as varied as Ugadi, politics, modern trends and lifestyle are presented. Kavi Sammelanam is also a launch pad for budding poets. And is usually carried live on All India Radio's Hyderabad 'A' station and Doordarshan, Hyderabad following 'panchanga sravanam' (New Year calendar).
The tastes of Ugadi are actually 6,Neem Buds/Flowers for Bitter, Raw Mango for Tangy, Tamarind Juice for Sour, Green Chilli for Hot, Jaggery for Sweet, Pinch of Salt for Salt
which symbolizes the fact that life is a mixture of different expereinces (sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise) , which should be accepted together and with equanimity.
